Stephen Mallowah

Mr. Stephen Mallowah is a Commercial and Corporate Law partner with TripleOKLaw Advocates LLP, a law firm based in Nairobi and undertaking projects across the region. He heads some of the specialized practice areas in the firm, including climate change and sustainability, structured and project finance, energy, mining, oil and gas. He further provides advice to clients on regulatory compliance, public policy and legislative engagements.  He is one of the pioneering lawyers in Kenya in the area of Public Private Partnerships and has advised both the public and private side on large PPP projects.

 

His public sector experience includes being Executive Director & CEO of the Anti-Counterfeit Agency (ACA), and Board Secretary of the Retirement Benefits Authority, a financial regulator overseeing the Kenyan pensions sector; as well as Corporation Secretary at the Insurance Regulatory Authority. Prior to joining the public sector Mr. Mallowah was in corporate law practice and has worked with the leading commercial law firms of Hamilton Harrison & Mathews, and Anjarwalla & Khanna. Mr. Mallowah has also taught at Kenyatta University, the Catholic University of East Africa, the Kenya School of Law and the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, among others; and is a certified Corporate Governance Trainer.

 

An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 30 years experience, Mr. Mallowah holds an MSc in Public Policy & Management from the School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London, as well as an LL.M. in Corporate & Commercial Law from University College, University of London. Mr Mallowah sits on the boards of several companies, as well as some not-for-profit boards of educational and charitable institutions. He is a private sector member of the PPP Committee at the National Treasury.
